Site Selection

Worldcon sites are selected two years in advance, by a secret ballot of WSFS members. All Adult and Young Adult Attending and Supporting members of Chicon 7 are eligible to take part in the process. Ballots may be submitted by postal mail (in which case they must reach Chicon 7 by August 11, 2012) or in person at the convention, up to the close of voting at 6 p.m. CDT on Saturday, September 1, 2012. All ballots must be accompanied by an Advance Membership (Voting) fee of $40, which will automatically be converted to a Supporting membership in the 72nd Worldcon.

Site Selection in the Constitution

The Site Selection process is governed by Article 4 of the WSFS Constitution. Section 4.6 defines the requirements for a bidder to be included on the Site Selection ballot. There are two key requirements:

The only bid to have formally filed by the deadline of March 2, 2012, is London in 2014. You can read the London team's filing at the bottom of this page.

Site Selection Ballot

Site selection is undertaken by written ballot, on a one member, one vote basis. Votes can be submitted by post prior to the Convention, or by hand at Chicon 7 itself.

Mail-in ballots must be received by August 11, 2012. Voting at the convention will close at 6 p.m. CDT, Saturday, September 1, 2012.

The printed ballot can be downloaded here or found in Chicon 7 Progress Report 4 which will be mailed out to members during May 2012.

Completed ballots should be mailed to:

At-Con Voting

Voting for the site of the 2014 (72nd) Worldcon will take place at the Site Selection tables located in the Riverside Center Concourse near the Fan Tables. The hours are 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 30, and 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31 and Saturday, Sept. 1.

The Site Selection Advance Supporting Membership is $40 US, and will automatically make you a Supporting Member of the 2014 Worldcon. All voters must be at least a Supporting Member of Chicon 7. The choices on the ballot are 'London in 2014,' 'Write-in,' 'No Preference,' and 'None of the Above.'

The results of the vote will be announced at the WSFS Business Meeting on Sunday, Sept. 2.
