Hugo Award Ceremony

The premier event of any Worldcon is the presentation of the World Science Fiction Society’s Hugo Awards. The Hugo Awards honor the best of science fiction and fantasy of the previous year in literature, non-fiction, dramatic presentations, art, and fan-driven works.

The Chicon 8 Hugo Awards Ceremony will be held on the evening of Sunday, September 4, 2022. The evening will be hosted by our amazing toastmasters, Annalee Newitz and Charlie Jane Anders. It will take place in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Chicago, starting at 8 p.m.

As in previous years, we will be opening the doors well in advance to allow everyone to find their seats. (The Ballroom has seating for 2,000 – so we’ll have room to fit everyone in who wants to be there!). The nominees and their guests are brought in shortly before the start, after attending a reception laid on by Chicon 8 and kindly sponsored by Google. (Even seasoned professionals get nervous, so it’s a good idea to ensure they have had something to eat and drink before the show!).

All attendees are invited to attend the ceremony and celebrate the best of the genre that we love. During the show, which typically runs for about 2 hours, we will be presenting:

  • The 2022 Hugo Awards, in 17 categories
  • The Lodestar Award for Best Young Adult Book
  • The Astounding Award for Best New Writer.

The full list of Finalists for this year’s awards can be found here.
